Top 5 Reasons to have a Christmas time Wedding

If you love the holidays, why not just have a Christmas themed wedding.  With lots of decor to choose from, the sights, smells, memories and holiday spirits being at an all time high, a Christmas wedding can be a great idea! There are some great benefits to a holiday time wedding, and not just because you don't forget the date or share decorations.  A wedding during holiday season has it's benefits, quite a few actually.  Here are my top 5 reasons to choose a holiday wedding:

1.  Holiday themed favors!  Favors have actually fallen out of favor for a lot of wedding guests over the past few years.  Unless your wedding favors are unique, interesting or extremely personal the majority of wedding favors get left behind or thrown away.  A holiday trinket or ornament is a winner.

2.  Holiday decorations.  Pine, spruce, poinsettia, ribbons, lace gorgeous.

3.  Winter wonderland.  Snow, ice, lights, you don't have to have your wedding during the holidays to have a winter wonderland, but it would look weird in July.  A winter wonderland is magical.

4.  Festive Christmas cocktails.  A signature cocktail for a wedding has been on trend for the last few years and is a great and fun idea.  Why not have a Christmas or holiday themed cocktail at your wedding like a Santagria or Winter Wonderland White Russian?  Fun.

5.  Hot chocolate bar.  Add a hot chocolate bar to your desert table or desert bar at your wedding.  Kids of all ages and chocohaulics will love it!

5 Reasons why you should have a Beach Wedding

I love a beach wedding Choosing the right wedding location can be difficult, especially when there are so many to choose from. Getting married at the beach can be a perfect choice, especially if you and your loved one enjoy the outdoors. While you do have to be mindful of the weather, it certainly can make one of the most incredible wedding locations.

1.  Affordable

While some people believe it would be more expensive, having a beach wedding (close to home) can actually be more affordable than traditional locations. There are many packages to choose from, and you can keep things simplistic to cut down on other fees.

On top of this, is you have the reception on the beach as well, you can avoid the expensive costs of other venues, and look for local caterers. With so many options, you can have a beautiful and relaxing event.

2.  Intimate

If you want to keep things low-key, without many guests than a beach wedding is a great choice. You can keep things private, and don’t have to worry about other people being annoyed they weren’t invited.  However privacy can be an issue on a public beach at peak seasons or time of day.

3.  Amazing Photos

Without a doubt, getting married at the beach will give you some of the most incredible photos that no other locations can compare to. Sunset and sunrise photos are obviously the best, but even during the day, the backdrop will be incredible.  How can you not love the beach.

4.  Easier

A beach wedding also requires little planning from both the bride and groom. A planner or coordinator will take care of all the preparations and setting up for you. Since the backdrop is so gorgeous, there is also less need for decorations. Which can save you even more money!

5.  Wedding & Honeymoon in 1

Because you’ve already traveled to do the wedding – you don’t have to travel anywhere else to enjoy your honeymoon!  A lot of resorts offer great inclusive packages.  You simply go back to your Beach house, hotel, or condo and immediately start the honeymoon!  No jetlag or exhaustion to deal with because you’re already there. Now you can enjoy your time together on the beautiful beaches wherever you choose.

Live Painting & Wedding Day Portraits a hot trend for 2022-2023 Weddings

Live Painting & Wedding Day Portraits

The ban on live music at weddings forced couples to come up with more creative entertainment options for their guests during the pandemic, including live painters, wedding portrait artists and caricaturists! Not only does this addition serve as a talking point for your guests, but the resulting drawing or painting serves as a keepsake for you and your guests, and even doubles as a wedding favour! There are some great variations of these artists and their work to choose from.  I have even had some local and not so local artists reach out to me to refer them to my wedding clients. Oh, and if there's an artist you love that hasn't worked a wedding before, it's worth approaching them for a quote - they may be happy to oblige!  This is so cool to see in person and a great source of both conversation and entertainment for you and your guests that helps makes your wedding more memorable and special.

Top Wedding Cake Tips

The wedding cake.  No one told me when I was planning my wedding 19 years ago that choosing my wedding cake would be so involved and difficult.  I just thought it would be fun!  I will share some tips to think about when choosing your wedding cake that no one told me.

1.  Delivery- Cake delivery takes a little coordination.  Complex cakes might not be delivered ready to go and all set up.  Make sure that there's enough time and space in case assembly needs to take place at your venue.  Refrigeration is also something to consider.

2.  Get Flavor Prices-Choosing different flavors for different layers sounds good, but could be costly.  Remember guests don't get to pick their piece of cake usually so pick your favorite two flavors.

3.  Mind Your Flowers- If you use fresh flowers to adorn your cake, make sure they are sturdy and can withstand hours of being in the open, potentially under lights without wilting.  Your florist will know the best options and may even add stem reinforcements or other tricks.  Also double check with your florist to make sure all flowers that touch the cake have NOT been sprayed with pesticides.

4.  Find Ways to Save- If you are working with a tight budget there are some tips to save money.  Stay away from complex designs, custom designs, handmade sugar flowers, unnecessary tiers.  Another trend couples are doing to save money is having a smaller cake on display for the cake cutting, and a larger sheet simple sheet cake in the kitchen to be cut and served to guests.  This way they get the best of both worlds and save a little money as well.

5.  Size Matters- So three standard tiers serves about a 100 guests, your cake designer will be able to guide you in size and guest count.  If you will have a desert table or candy bar or other sweets as well as cake for guests you will want to take that into consideration as well.  Again if budget is a factor, then opt for a smaller cake if other sweets will be available to guests.

Remember not everyone has a sweet tooth and may not eat desert.  This is a wedding not a kids birthday party.  Have fun, be creative and enjoy.

12 Wedding Budget Tips

Planning a wedding should be a fun time, meeting with florists and playing with all the gorgeous flowers, tasting cakes and canape.  However, the minute you mention the word "wedding" prices sore, vendors get pushy and it can get overwhelming.  When you are working with a wedding budget it is important to stick to that budget.  Budget does not equal cheap.  Get that right out of your head now.  There are plenty of weddings I have been a part of that were completed on a budget and they were just lovely, beautiful even and no one filed bankruptcy.  So let's go over some helpful tips when working with a wedding budget.

Top 12 budget saving tips:

1.  CUT DOWN- Cut down your guest list- Instead of inviting every person who has ever been in your or your parent's address book, invite those closest to you, who you have shared memories with.  For example invite 100 people instead of 150, that 50 person difference will make a big impact on your budget.  cut down your dinner courses, instead of serving an elaborate 5 course plated meal for your guests, serve 3 courses.

2.  BE FLEXIBLE- Offer a limited bar; beer, wine and soft drinks, or beer, wine and a coffee bar with fancy options for coffee.

3.  PICK & CHOOSE- Pick and choose where to spend the bulk of your budget.  If you indulge in a designer dress, then instead of a faraway tropical honeymoon, stay more local, shop for deals.  You can choose a fancy mini cake for you and your groom to cut and eat, and serve your guests a sheet cake from the kitchen, that way you still get the admiration of a beautiful cake without the big expense when not everyone will eat cake.

4. PUT IT OFF- Put off some of the more expensive options such as getting silver wedding bands instead of platinum and then upgrade to platinum or white gold on your 1st anniversary.  Schedule a honeymoon that is more low key and closer to home and then plan a dream vacation for your 1st or 3rd wedding anniversary.

5. DO IT YOURSELF- Help yourself out and make your own ceremony programs or wedding favors, table cards or even some of the centerpieces for the crafty bride.  Save the bigger details for the pros, especially if you get in over your head, but there are plenty of ways to get involved and help yourself out.

6.  CONSIDER ANOTHER DAY BUT SATURDAY- Many venues charge the most for a Saturday evening wedding.  Friday is another option, or even Sunday brunch or mid-day and evening if it isn't a church wedding.  Some venues even hold weddings on Thursday evenings.  This can be tricky when dealing with work schedules but it does offer a smaller price and is something to think about.

7.  STAY IN SEASON- Keep your flower choices in season as much as your can and this will save big time on your budget.  OFF-SEASON times of the year are another option for lowing your venue costs, you will want to stay away from April, May, June, September, October.

8.  STAY LOCAL- Local flowers, local cuisine, local vendors, if you keep local this will save on import costs or delivery, every little bit counts.

9.   REPURPOSE FLOWERS- Take the ceremony flowers from the church to the reception, there is no shame in this, you can also talk to the couple getting married directly after you if there is one and see if you guys can share the costs of the flowers at the ceremony.

10.  SIGNATURE COCKTAIL- Instead of an open bar you can serve a minimal bar and focus on the signature cocktail that uses less liquor or less expensive liquor which will give you more for your money.

11.  BUY YOUR OWN ALCOHOL- If your caterer or venue will allow, you may be able to bring in your own alcohol from like Costco instead of paying a flat rate for a bar tab, some will work a deal allowing you to buy your own top shelf.  Something can be better than nothing.

12.  PACKAGE DEALS- Always ask about package deals, if you are having your wedding at a hotel, they will often have package deals especially when blocks of rooms are booked for wedding guests.  Your stationary can be ordered in a package deal, some venues offer in-house options for their caterers, DJs, photographers, etc.  Always ask about a package deal.

These are just a few budget saving tips, there are so many ways to cut down wedding costs and still have an amazing wedding.  You can always contact us at Blessed Events for more budget saving tips.

How to choose your wedding day makeup & hair style

What to consider when choosing a bridal hairstyle and makeup look

Every bride wants to look her most beautiful self on her wedding day.  Most brides hire a professional make-up artist and hairstylist to achieve this timeless look.  Here are some things to consider when planning and picking your wedding day styles.

  • Hair length and texture – certain hairstyles work best on longer hair, fine hair or hair that holds curl extremely well, while others are best for thick or textured hair. Your stylist can help determine if the style you’re considering is realistic for your hair type.
  • Dancing – do you plan to dance the night away and get crazy on the dance floor? You’ll want a hairstyle that can withstand those moves!
  • The weather – are you having an outdoor ceremony with potential for wind or humidity? Keep that in mind when thinking about your bridal look.
  • Your dress – your hair and makeup look should not only compliment your natural beauty, but the style of your gown, as well! Whether you’re going for boho, glam or classic, you’ll want to have a cohesive aesthetic.
  • What will your number of attendants be and who will be getting which services done? Don’t forget moms, grandmas, junior bridesmaids, house party attendants and flower girls.  Will you be paying for your girls hair and make-up?
  • Will you’ll want your bridesmaids to have half-up/down hairstyles or an updo? Updos often take longer and that time needs to be accounted for. some brides prefer their bridesmaids to have a uniform look when it comes to hair and makeup, others aren’t picky – either way is fine, you’ll just need to decide before it’s time to finalize hair and makeup plans and costs.
  • What time your ceremony will start and what time photos need to start? Your hair and makeup artists will need to know what time they’ll need to be finished by in order to calculate their start time and if any mid-day touch-ups are needed and included in the price.
  • If you don’t have access to your venue until a certain time and hair and makeup will need to start before then, you’ll need to have another location in mind for getting ready. A hotel is a common, convenient option – consider a home rental, too! They often offer much more space to move around natural window light than hotels, which also makes for beautiful photos!

You need to be able to trust your stylist(s) and ask for their advice when it comes to styles, color palettes and more so make sure you like their style, personality, how organized they are and transparent with their costs when shopping around. They’re the experts, and can offer insight you may not have considered!  Have fun and enjoy the pampering this is your big day, enjoy it.

Fall 2022 Wedding Dress Trends

According to Brides.com there are 10 wedding dress trends for this fall to watch out for.  According to the article on their website updated on 7/18/22, "From gowns with voluminous ruffles to looks with sexy cutouts, there were an array of dresses that captured our attention. What's more, the designers didn't play it safe this season, opting for dresses with colorful hues, while also experimenting with different sleeve silhouettes. The Fall 2022 lines truly exemplified the versatility of bridal fashion, and proved that no matter your bridal style, there's a look you'll love when it comes time to say "I do."

Let's take a look.

1.  Bridal Suits & Separates- Designers like Katharine Polk, fully embraced the trend, incorporating their signature style and design motifs into constructing this new, but timeless, bridal fashion moment. This lace suit is beautiful from the designers Houghton Season 1 collection.

2.  Sexy Cutouts- Cutouts are still all the trend for 2022 and a trend we continuously saw throughout Bridal Fashion Week. Designers dared to be bold and used this design element to turn traditional gowns into modern masterpieces. Brands like PatBO, and Scorcesa truly embodied this sexy silhouette with both tasteful and contemporary pieces.  This dress is stunning by PatBO and all eyes would surely be on the bride in this dress.

3.  Colorful Hues- Color is having a moment in the bridal world.  Designers like Andrew KwonFrancesca Avila, and Watters fully understand this appeal by creating looks that break tradition, embrace individuality, and push the boundaries within bridalwear, all with such beautiful feminine colors.  Here we have Blush by Francesca Avila.

4.  Square Necklines- A dress's neckline is one of the most important components to an ensemble, though oftentimes, brides don't take notice of this when choosing their dress. Thankfully, this season's collections brought the attention back to this design detail. While sweetheart necklines are classic, square necklines made a huge debut down the runways. Gowns from Dana HarelHalfpenny London, and Theia all featured square necklines, perfect for a bride with modern tastes.  Here we have Theia, simple, lovely, modern elegance.

5.  High-low Hemlines- High-low hemlines are back again. Midi and mini hemlines have been making their way down the runway these past few seasons, but what took center stage for Fall 2022 were high-low silhouettes.  Marchesa NotteAnne Barge, and Kim Kassas Couture are only but a few bridal brands that created gowns with this style.  I personally love this design by Marchesa Notte.

6.  Voluminous Ruffles- Ruffles were all over the Fall 2022 collections. From full voluminous skirts to ruffled hemlines and tiered tulle, this cascading style is essential for those who want to feel like the belle of their ball. Designers, MarchesaOdylyne the Ceremony, and Amsale are our favorites who embraced the love of ruffles.  This Odylyne the Ceremony is stunning and romantic with it's lines and flow, any bride would feel amazing in this gown.

7.  High Neck and Halter Necklines-
Halter/high necklines add a classic touch to any dress, but can also provide extra coverage for those who'd prefer a more modest look. Eisen-SteinYolancris, and Ines Di Santo beautifully show the versatility of this trend, creating romantic and modern takes pairing the high neckline with cutouts or high daring slits.  Here we have Ines Di Santo gorgeous high neck dress with keyhole and statement shoulders.

8.  Balloon "Puff" Sleeves- A major trend last season, Regency-era "puff" sleeves continue to reign the runway in bridal fashion. For the bride in love with  Bridgeton-inspired dresses, look into the collections by Reem AcraVerdin, and Galia Lahav Couture embrace the romanticism of the time period with a modern touch.  Simply stunning design by Galia Lahav Couture.

9. Belle Sleeves- Taking inspiration from the 1970s belle sleeves are now back as a top trend today in long, and short sleeves. Take a look at the collections from WONA ConceptPeter Langner, and Rosa Clara to find this modern take.  I am partial to these whimsical and romantic gown by WONA Concept.

10. Corset Body- While most of us women love a good corseted look that accentuates a woman's curves, designers like Nadia Manjarrez Studio BridalInes by Ines Di Santo, and Kosibah Fall 2022 dresses show us why corset bodices will continue to thrive with their classic and innovative designs.

I was surprised not to find capes on this list as I have noticed a lot more caped gowns on fashion forward women this year.  Enjoy the full array of amazing dresses as you search for the wedding dress of your dreams. 💖

The Importance of Hiring a Wedding Coordinator

The Importance of Hiring a Wedding Coordinator

We know working with a budget can be challenging when planning a wedding, much less a wedding of your dreams.  One of the best investments is hiring a Day of Coordinator at least, especially if you value your sanity.  Even the craftiest DIY bride needs assistance on her special day.  Every bride deserves to sit back, relax, and have fun getting ready for her wedding with her friends.  Not Hiring A Day Of Wedding Coordinator

If a wedding coordinator is not in your budget consider hiring a day of coordinator. For the third and not final time, you will be very busy. Spending a few extra from your budget to hire a designated coordinator will certainly take an immense load of stress of your shoulders. A stress free bride is the goal!  Let’s read a few horror stories from brides who regret not hiring a coordinator……

"We didn't have a full wedding planner ... I was very organized and I knew exactly what I wanted but I'm only one person," said Caroline Ripa, who has also shared a list of her 2022 wedding regrets on TikTok.

She did hire a day-of coordinator for her wedding in September 2021, but the last-minute stressors started before the big day."When it came to the wedding week, I was very overwhelmed and there was so much going on," she said.

"What I regret is spending so much time worrying about little details—the seating plan, the music, the bridesmaids' dresses...In the end, all the stress I put myself through leading up to the big day had me throwing up and it was avoidable. I should have hired a Day of Wedding Coordinator.  Your wedding is perfect regardless of whether certain details don't work out the way you planned." —Ruth

“Wedding tasks aren't always fun. Sure, it's a ball to ooh and aah over cake designs, but there's nothing enjoyable about researching mini-buses for guest transport or making seating charts. There isn't much joy in reviewing vendor contracts or keeping track of payments, either. Contrary to what I had thought, hiring a wedding planner doesn't mean outsourcing your entire wedding; a wedding planner only handles what you want them to (support at the start to get you on the right track, on-the-day coordination only, or indeed the whole shebang) so won't take over and choose your final bouquet design for you. So if do you want to drive your wedding planning, you can focus on the fun parts... and leave the boring bits to someone else, and makes sure your day runs smoothly.” –Cara

“I have always thought of myself as a creative person and wanted to keep costs down with our wedding as we already have two children and my soon to be husband just got a new job.  The venue said they would help in the reception set-up and I had a handful of family and friends to help set-up before the wedding too.  I had created a timeline and checklist for everyone to refer to day of the wedding to keep things on track and organized including my bridesmaids.  Only my mom and the officiant followed the list.  Three of my vendors were late, my make-up artist canceled last minute, my hair stylist didn’t show, the DJ was late, and I could go on.  I wish I had spent the money on a Day of Coordinator, so much of the chaos could have been avoided, in the end I was so stressed out, I ended up almost drunk by the time I walked down the aisle.” – Heather

Not hiring a wedding coordinator is on the top 5 biggest regrets of brides.  At least a day of coordinator is a good investment to the running of your big day not to mention your sanity.  Affordable wedding coordinators are out there in the world, you just have to know how to find them and vet them.  We always offer to work with any budget, but mindful that our time is worthwhile and we always offer a free phone consultation.  You need to be able to trust your planner and or coordinator, get to know them a little.  You can share duties if you are a hands on bride or you can give your colors and preferences and leave the rest up to them.  This is your day and you deserve to enjoy it not be so stressed out you turn into a bridezilla.

How to Choose a Wedding Dress- Dos & Don'ts

How To Choose A Wedding Dress – A Simple Guide With Dos And Don'ts

So your wedding date has been fixed and the most important thing for any bride is to select her wedding dress. It can never be too soon when it comes to making a check-list for the wedding and the perfect dress always tops the list. But there may be many questions and concerns when one is wondering how to choose a wedding dress. Now, every girl has some idea (if not the most clear one) about the kind of dress she wants to wear and where to find it. However, there are always some dos and don’ts involved when you have to pick one. So let’s check out what one must and what one mustn’t do when you are out and about wondering how to choose a wedding dress.

Don’ts – How To Choose A Wedding Dress

  1. Everything you see on TV is not gorgeous in real life too. TV shows and fashion shows are designed in a way to make you fall for the dresses you see. But don’t believe everything you see on TV. Use your own style when going about how to choose a wedding dress.
  2. Don’t even think about ordering your dress online. YES, there are many bridal-themed websites these days that offer to deliver ‘the dream’ dress with no shipping costs and impressive discounts that seem right for you. But ordering wedding gowns online is a big no!
  3. Don’t walk into a dress boutique with no clue of what you want. To find the best dress takes time even with a clear idea in mind, and nobody knows how to choose a wedding dress right away. Therefore, walking into the boutique with no clue will take you forever to settle down on something.
  4. Don’t walk in without a budget either. Wedding gowns are mighty expensive and take up a huge share of your wedding budget. You must be ready with your survey and idea of how much you’re willing to spend to pick the perfect dress.
  5. Don’t leave dress selection to the last minute. There’s a lot involved when it comes to selecting dresses. You need to pick the best choice, get it fixed as per your size and try it on a zillion times. Leave ample time for all that.
  6. Don’t take a huge team for the trials. Too many people with too many opinions will only confuse you further.

5 Wedding Cake Trends Summer 2022

We are half way through 2022 and well into wedding season, however here in Southern California it is always wedding season.  Let's look at trends for this summer.

1. PRESSED FLORAL CAKES- This is a popular trend right now across many wedding and bridal magazines and posts.  Pressed flowers on cakes, invitations, favors, decorations, etc. Nothing says spring or summer like pretty flowers.  Edible flowers flat pressed on a cake are stunning and creative and works with every budget and theme from elegant to minimalistic.  Patterns can be methodically designed or messy and incorporate 3D flowers, icing flowers or just flat pressed.

2. SMALL WEDDING CAKES- This trend made its debut in 2020/2021 as couples were navigating the pandemic and planning micro-weddings, and it’s not going anywhere. Couples are opting for cakes of one or two tiers, this works for couples still hoping to have a cake-cutting ceremony without a massive and expensive cake.  This is also ideal for those couples wanting to do a desert buffet or candy/sweets table but still have the cake cutting.

3. SEPARATED TIERS - You will see more creations that will have separated tiers vs. hiding the tiers with frosting. These cakes have visible pillars supporting the next layer, which create an even taller and more ostentatious cake tower.  Some couples may leave this blank space as is, while others may fill it with fresh fruit or seasonal blooms to match a bouquet or centerpiece these tiers can be up and down or side by side allowing for complete creativity.  While this is not a new trend the creativity of design has gotten more elaborate and creative.

4. THEMED CAKES-
Want a focal piece for your themed wedding or just to incorporate your couple theme into the wedding celebration?  A themed cake is great.  Your cake can be a reflection of you and or your wedding.  Something classic and simple, ornate and grand or silly, and fun.  This is your day, do what reflects you!

5. BOLD COLORS - Statement cakes!
We’re seeing more statement cakes in bold colors that reflect the celebratory tone of the event. With that, the size of cakes is matching the bold designs as well, couples are opting for four and five-tier cakes that command attention, couples are in the market for cakes that are Instagram famous. I am seeing rich colors, uneven tier heights, alternative textures, messy buttercream, mid-tier pedestals, and metallic colors rocking the scene and they are gorgeous.
